Obama or any leaders from impoverished countries
I agree with the places of international comity--the ESL class--etc., but I would also take them to Brownsville, to observe a stop-and-frisk, to Rikers ... In other words, to places that would demonstrate US hypocrisy so that a *real* international debate can be had over how to develop international peace on a more egalitarian level--not holding up the US as a paragon that it in many ways it fails.

If you want to show them how people from all backgrounds can get along, take them to Jackson Heights. One of the most diverse areas of our country.

I'd take him to try Steve's Key Lime Pies in Red Hook. The dark chocolate is a perfect balance to the tart lime and the views from the pier are really relaxing -- perfect for a busy candidate on the trail. He can look out over the water, eat the pie, and reflect.

I'd take the President of Costa Rica to Bogota, a restaurant co-owned by a Costa Rican in Park Slope. Sadly, no soccer games to watch, but we'd share an Imperial.
