I am an author ("Dress for Excellence," Book-of-the-Month-Club selection), lecturer, and experienced personal shopper for men. My column ("Male Call") is a Dear Abby-type Q/A how-to dress advice column for men. Blog: LoisFenton.blogspot.com.
My personal shopping service includes pre-scouting and accompanying a man to help him select his best looks for business and leisure, either at a store of his choosing or mine. Men hire me on their own or someone gives my service as a gift. It is perfect for 1.] the man who needs help making tasteful selections or for 2.] the knowledgeable dresser who is strapped for time.
Interesting NOTE: The only time I was not able to follow through was when one of my clients gave my service to a colleague (who had admired his clothes) as a gift, BUT the secretary of the receiver of the gift decided that her boss did NOT need any help and refused to allow me to make actual contact with him!
My fee is $300/half day or $500/day. Phone number: 914-698-0721.My

When a man goes into a store to shop for clothes, he should make an effort to be well dressed. Just as with an interview, salespeople will pay more attention and will be more helpful to the man who dresses the part.
Also, know that you can, and should, "shop" for the right salesperson. Observe first, then choose one whose taste and judgment impress you. Unless you are approached by one whose manner and clothes you admire, just say, "No, thank you. I'm just looking." Wait for one you admire to be available. It will be time well spent.
