A Store I Own

:

$25-$100

:

My husband Anker West, an artist and ceramicist, has been having an annual holiday and exhibit for the last 15 years. He makes beautiful, one-of-a-kind ceramics, like vases, goblets, cups and bowls including some sculptures. The showroom is located in a vault (perhaps a bomb shelter once upon a time) in a converted toy factory that also houses artists, from painters to photographers to writers. Part of the studio opens up to a lovely courtyard protected by trees and bamboo. The building is located in the Ironbound section of Newark, NJ, one block away from Penn Station, which provides easy access from the Path and NJ Transit. As an added incentive, the neighborhood is full of portuguese/spanish and brazilian restaurants and bakeries for a bite after shopping.
The exhibit and sale will be Saturday, December 10 and Sunday, December 11 from 1 to 5pm. Also by appointment.

Try shopping in this neighborhood. There are some stores with items from Portugal or Brazil as well as some nice boutiques and jeweleries. Shopping here can represent some savings since it is within a 3% tax zone.
