Last month I was driving in rural northern Michigan listening to my favorite music via my iPod, and I silently thanked Steve Jobs for inventing it. As soon as I did that however, I realized that almost ALL the music on my iPod, I first heard on New Sounds (via internet), and so I thanked John Schaeffer, out loud, in the car.

Thank you again, John!

John is very close in age to me-so after all these years he feels like a very hip brother. I discovered WYNC one day while channel surfing-I caught what must have been one of the very first shows of "New Sounds"-I believe it was only on originally on weekends (?) and I remember fondly the "featured album"-Side One being played early in the show and Side Two later on..Ah the glory days of vinyl...I've followed John since. Naturally he's turned me on to MANY artists through the years. I bought the "New Sounds" book as soon as it was released and was honored that John once played some of my music (via a cassette I sent him) way back in 1983... He now seems to have become "Mr WYNC" with all his airtime... Thanks to John, I just leave all my radios tuned to WNYC all the time... Thanks for introducing me to the best radio station in New York, for all the music, fantastic interviews, and everything...Oddly now whenever I go to any concert of creative/experimental music I always look around in the audience to see if he's there, LOL...Here's to another 30 years on WYNC, and maybe another 30 after that!!
