Firebird

When I first heard the Firebird in 1994, I imaged a ship battling a storm and coming out tattered but triumphant. In 2001, I took this theme again to depict the first week after 9/11 (with the beginning of the final dance depicting the Empire State Building illuminated in Red, White and Blue and the lighting of the Tribute in Light) and how a city and a country rebounded in the face of unprecedented adversity (afternote: it wasn't until 2008 when I saw the piece's treatment in Fantasia 2000)
