Two of my favorite hobbies are re-purposing items and interior design.
On frequent trips to salvage and second-hand stores, I began noticing
CD/DVD racks of the same style that reminded me of an oriental table
lamp, which I had previously restored. I purchased several of these for $1-2 each, and decided to make a "lamp cluster". The fabric-covered and painted shades were fashioned from vinyl shelving liner (the kind that comes with those steel shelf units), as were the back plates combined with a piece of plastic packaging which supports the lamp socket. The lamps were wired in tandem and controlled by a single on/off/dimmer switch. I ended up with a sculptural art installation that doubles as accent lighting.
