This image comes from a series of digital images of imaginary landscapes. I got the idea for this series by patterns made by coffee grounds left at the bottom of my cup; it struck me that the lines and shapes they left looked very much like Asian painting. I combined photographs of the grounds to create veiled strata culminating in a spatial statement. I started calling them sCapes because they were based upon coffee and also as a pun on āCā referring to the act of "seeing."

You've got my vote!
Unparalleled in every way!
Yet another reason to value coffee. Proud of you Skipper!
just breath taking
I was glancing over all of the entries and couldn't help but notice all of the comments your piece attracted; and for good reason! This is stunningly unique!
This is astounding, a friend of a friend told me to check it out and I couldn't believe it was made with coffee..............
This reminded me of Kurasawa's The Blizzard, in his Dreams. It is the dawn breaking over the mountains, revealing snowy topography blended dizzyingly into the horizon. It is the cold creeping into your bones, disguised as warmth. It is deadly beauty.
This...is...amazing. I can only hope the coffee grounds from all my future cups create images that are equally as compelling as what has been done here!!
Love, love, love it! And to think I have just been throwing mine out in the compost!
I would have never guessed those were coffee grounds. This looks amazing!!
Awesome! Very creative and cool idea!
This is really neat! It makes me think of the Stataclites I used to visit as a kid. Great work!
Absolutely beautiful! This is such a creative idea, I love it!
Beautiful!!!!! It actually reminds me of the sand on lake Michigan when it snows and blends together.........
Who would've ever thought? So creative and such a beautiful outcome.
Amazing! Reminds me of paintings of Asian mountains.
After years of working at Starbucks I did not think it was possible to find coffee beautiful and moving!
This is beautiful! what a wonderful way to enjoy hot coffee while gazing upon snowy alps!
After hearing about this one I had to check it out and it is terrific. It really does look Asian. Would make wonderful prints.
Ms. Randall represents the best of the Berea Art Community. Her creation also evokes (in me) the Pinnacles Of Berea College Forest... especially the steep climbs, if you're out of shape. Well done!
This is GREAT!!!! To take something as mundane as coffee grounds and turn them into landscapes is truly ingenious.
This one gets my vote for sure. It does look like an Asian pinacle and valley landscape in mid-China - which is fabulous. Esther Randall really captured it and I love how she did that. Way cool!!!!
