Just to consider the enormity of the question "Are we alone in the universe?" awakens a childlike sense of wonder. It was my intention to capture that feeling in this painting of my daughter at age 10, spinning Saturn on her finger, which I used for this recreation of a 1950s-era book. For the basis of the illustration, I scanned a copy of an actual vintage book titled "The Boy Scientist". I always wondered where its companion book "The Girl Scientist" was! Well, no one encouraged girls to be scientists back then, so I created an image of a book that I would love to have read when I was a girl.
