One spectacular Sunday in October my sister and I canoed Brooklyn's Superfund sight, the Gowanus Canal. I have lived on Carroll Street for 25 years. This water has always been mythically unapproachable.
It was quiet. Saturated bright light bounced from every surface. We were very careful to place our paddles,splashing still out of the question.
