This represents the big waves of Eastern Immigration at the end of the 19th century / beginning of the 20th in New York City. Immigrants brought their food culture with them and it became at some point around the 20s' a staple of snack food you could find around NY. To this day, this simbolizes a big part of the food culture brought to this city. To my knowledge, they can only be found around NY but I might be wrong.
