I was a modernist urban planner. I thought outside the box. My job was to arrange boxes on land. Boxes next to boxes, on top of boxes, stories upon stories of boxes, and within those boxes, smaller boxes like rooms, box springs, dressers, computers, and within those computers, windows. Windows that open within other windows, next to other windows, and for the first time, you could see your way outside of the box.
