LivingColour's "Flying"

:

The song mentions what a terrific day it was on 9-11. The group "Living Colour" is a NYC band. The narrator,(lead singer Corey Glover) of the song is inside a office at the twin towers when the incident happens. He was about to ask a female coworker out on a date when she looks out the window and screams Oh My God! The room disintegrates upon impact and the doomed lovers are holding hands. Sadly Corey Glover intones "just not the way I planned"...I worked in the area near the the World Trade Center at the Wall Street Post Office on Pine Street (Now Closed) It was a spectacular day. I was a dispatcher on the loading deck. I paid no attention at the time to the sirens in the distance. Later a carrier, Vinney called me down to look up William Street. It was surreal. Bits of paper like confetti was slowly drifting in the sky. Later, a passerby said a small plane crashed into the WTC. We laughed and said how could the pilot not avoid those imposing towers? Later i returned to the deck. Moments later another coworker came running out screaming that another plane hit the WTC. I knew then that something terrible was taking place. To this day I get on edge whenever I hear fire engines in Manhattan.

This song not only sums up my feeling about 9/11, it also gives me the strength to continue living after this tragic event.

Don't waste time with music. It will just allow people to drift into their own spaces. I realize that most people are comfortable believing what they want to believe, especially about something as broadly awful as the 911 attacks. Music, as opposed to facts coupled with varying opinions, will let people continue to believe what they want.

The reality - from all points of view - of the event needs to be made clear. Differing opinions on the event (its antecedents, contemporaneous events, and subsequent events) need to be articulated.

We need a big picture with the ability to zoom in to the (often unpleasant and ideologically discordant) details.

1. There is beauty in the simple things, there is a hand here to help you.

2. A beautiful song about an end to chaos, when there is that moment of calm, and just finding that someone to hold your hand and letting go, if only for a moment.

3. Commentary on the media and speaks of the sacrifices Americans make to keep our great country aloft.

It's an uplifting song of breaking through the troubles that we have to overcome from 9-11, and shares with us the love of our nation.

:

This song is able to capture all those feelings i never knew existed up till that one tragic day.
It also manages to put them into a little refrain of only several seconds granting us the very ability to yell out all these feelings altogether
