I expect babysitters to do housework.
No
I expect babysitters to be me when I am out! That means cleaning up after dinner and folder a small amount of laundry while children are sleeping. Possibly switching laundry as a special request.
I can't afford many babysitting hours and have actually cut back to no regular weekly sitting. We go out once in a while on the weekend.

The cost. Even if I do a share with a friend and it's only $10/hr, that's still $80 a day, and that's $320 a month.

My son is 16 months old and can be a real handful even with people he knows well. Even though we don't have much money, it's worth it to just pay the nanny instead of asking for favor upon favor from family members who are busy and would have to put up with a lot of crying and fussing. She's amazing and needs the job, so I want to keep her around as long as possible. But, we will have to let her go and switch to daycare this summer because it is considerably cheaper. I wish we could pay her more, but we do give her a lot of freedom, including a car seat for her own car so that she can take him on play dates or run errands. It would be a special kind of torture to leave him and her cooped up in our little apartment all day.

Ahhh,
1. we don't go out much, DH often works 6 days a week 7a-7p.
2. Big Brother (15) often babysits for 10 yr old sister, & doesn't get paid.
3.Favorite Baby sitter isn't often available as she's also on 3 different swim teams.
4. Man i've often wished I WAS the baby-sitter! more fun!
& FYI I expect the baby sitter to make (cook) dinner & have the kid(s) help clean up after.

Wanting to be home with my kids
[Notes: I use sitters that were referred by The Sitting Service, which requires that I pay $15/hr with a $50 minimum. I checked $20 as the hourly rate because I usually hire sitters to come for 2-3 hours. I live in the suburbs and my babysitters have their own transportation, so the taxi/car service is not applicable.]

The cost, plus the fact that our family time is limited, so when we have free time we like to do thing with our kids and not leave them home with a sitter.
