Pleasant Valley Lavender

:

An Experience (or other non-material gift)

:

Under $25

:

I own and operate New Jersey's only Lavender farm. In season (June - mid August) people can come and pick lavender in our fields. Fresh bundles are $5 and $8 - very reasonable! Dried bundles are $7 and $10.
When we are open in the spring and summer you can bring your own picnic and hang out on our 10 acre farm(no charge). I can teach you about growing and processing lavender for sachets, culinary uses or just to admire (again, no charge). We also installed in 2011 a 7 circuit Chartres style Labyrinth for guests to walk and enjoy.

I sell handmade lavender soaps, sachets, body wraps, lavender oils and linen spray, as well as culinary lavender and lavender honey. I also make lavender-filled doggie bandanas ("Chillax Puppy") and for those of us who still enjoy hardcovers and paper books, lavender-filled, origami bookmarks. Prices for our products range from $2 to $25.

Off- season we are open by appointment and I am super flexible time-wise. To make arrangements to come visit outside of the normal, seasonal hours, call 732-740-4832, or email via the contact page of our website.

I am a former state senator in New Jersey and love to share my knowledge and enthusiasm for lavender. If people want to hang out and chat politics that's okay too.

Relax! Remember gifts don't always have to fit in a package or under a tree. Your most precious gift may be to share your time or experiences with those you love.

During the holidays be mindful to enjoy, share and savor your blessings. Always take time to be thankful.

If you can't avoid being stressed by the holiday "hustle and bustle," take refuge in a lavender-infused bath, or enjoy some lavender tea while draped in a lavender body-wrap. Lavender really does wonders for frazzled nerves. Enjoy!

In the name of someone on your gift list you can give a chicks, a goat or other farm animals, a fishing kit, a bicycle, medical care, anti-malaria mosquito nets, education for girls, school supplies or other truly helpful stuff in their online gift catalog to people in developing countries.

Note: This is a Christian organization. I am not Christian, but if you are giving Xmas gifts you probably are, and even if not, these gifts will make a difference to people who have almost nothing and bring happiness to your family member or friend who probably already has too much stuff cluttering up their place.

My husband Anker West, an artist and ceramicist, has been having an annual holiday and exhibit for the last 15 years. He makes beautiful, one-of-a-kind ceramics, like vases, goblets, cups and bowls including some sculptures. The showroom is located in a vault (perhaps a bomb shelter once upon a time) in a converted toy factory that also houses artists, from painters to photographers to writers. Part of the studio opens up to a lovely courtyard protected by trees and bamboo. The building is located in the Ironbound section of Newark, NJ, one block away from Penn Station, which provides easy access from the Path and NJ Transit. As an added incentive, the neighborhood is full of portuguese/spanish and brazilian restaurants and bakeries for a bite after shopping.
The exhibit and sale will be Saturday, December 10 and Sunday, December 11 from 1 to 5pm. Also by appointment.

Try shopping in this neighborhood. There are some stores with items from Portugal or Brazil as well as some nice boutiques and jeweleries. Shopping here can represent some savings since it is within a 3% tax zone.
