Gambling Industry Pours Millions Into State Politics, Report Finds

As the Cuomo administration continues its push to expand casinos in New York State, the gambling industry is spending large sums of money to influence that process, according to a report.
Those with gambling and horse-racing interests in the state spent nearly $50 million in lobbying and campaign contributions from 2005 to June of this year — and they are on pace to spend a record amount this year, a report released Wednesday by government watchdog group Common Cause found.
“The political money – the lobby and the campaign contributions – are so clearly clustered around the decision points. It makes it seem as if our public policy is up for sale to the highest bidder,” said Susan Lerner, executive director of Common Cause/NY.
Governor Andrew Cuomo's office has not returned request for comment.
