Wiretap Excerpts Released in Liu Case

Newly released transcripts from wiretapped conversations stemming from a federal probe of City Comptroller John Liu reveal the Democrat may have known more about his campaign fundraising than previously thought.
The heavily redacted transcripts show a New York City official believed to be Liu talking to a fundraiser about how much more campaign cash is needed, according to the New York Times.
The fundraiser is thought to be Oliver Pan, who was arrested on fraud charges in November. Liu's former treasuer Jenny Hou was arrested in February. They both pleaded not guilty.
Liu has not been charged with any wrongdoing.
A lawyer for Liu said the transcripts show that prosecutors misled federal judges into issuing the wiretaps by mischaracterizing conversations and misinterpreting election law.
Prosecutors declined to comment.
