Luxe Hotel Slated for Brooklyn Bridge Park

A 10-story luxury hotel and residential complex will be built at Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced Tuesday that Toll Brothers City Living and Starwood Capital Group have been tapped to build the project on the Brooklyn waterfront south of the Brooklyn Bridge.
The plan calls for a five-story residential building, and public restrooms, restaurant and retail space, according to Park President Regina Myer.
“We were very careful to make sure the project did two things,” she said. “That it really activated our entrance, and provided amenities for park users.”
She said project organizers took a close look at the neighborhood's density, making sure to keep the development within the neighborhood's parameters, and ensure views of the waterfront remain open and accessible to park visitors.
Meyer said rent payments and payments in lieu of taxes on the site will fund park operations and upkeep.
She said the ground breaking could take place next summer.

So people in the park will have a nice view of the river front, but the people who live in Brooklyn Heights are out of luck. I am sick of developers trying to build up that section of the waterfront when there are so many others area ripe for development. Please leave Brooklyn Bridge alone.

It BLOCKS the entrances to the park, these huge, out of scale condo buildings. What amenities could she possibly be talking about? Where is the permanent pool? Where is the ice rink? Where are any playing fields and ball courts? Oh, she must mean the amenities like a $500 hotel room or a $20 cocktial in the "luxe" restaurant. I agree with the others - this thing stinks. Why not call it what it is - the 1% park!
Horrible. Parks are for the public not private housing, not hotels. As soon as condos came into this park, all park like activities came out. Gone are the pools, ice rink, year round soccer fields, ball courts-luxe housing and hotel have a hard time sharing with the unwashed public. Until we force our legislators to commit to a percentage of our tax dollars dedicated to public parks we will never build a great park for the people ever again. This "park" is a nice sidewalk along the greatest harbor on earth and the real goodies saved for the uber rich.
Ugh. Richie Rich and his cronies are gonna turn the Bklyn waterfront into Miami. Yeah, that's just what we need there, a "luxe" hotel.
"Activate our entrance" What the hell does that even mean? We'll see how visitor friendly the building's management is when all is said and done.
