Dad of Fatally Hurt Crane Worker Testifies in NYC
Wednesday, February 22, 2012 - 06:49 PM
The father of a construction crane operator has testified about watching his fatally injured son being pulled from the wreckage after a collapse in New York City.
Donald R. Leo is also a crane operator. He had run the same rig himself about a month before.
Leo testified Wednesday at crane owner James Lomma's manslaughter trial. Lomma has pleaded not guilty.
Leo's son, Donald C. Leo, was killed in May 2008 along with sewer company worker Ramadan Kurtaj (Koor-TAHZH').
The elder Leo briefly ran that same crane while his soon-to-be-married son was away for his bachelor party.
The father was working about three miles away when he heard about the collapse. He ran much of the way and arrived as rescuers worked to free his son.
