Friday, August 10, 2012 - 01:05 PM
Mayor Michael Bloomberg says an NYPD sergeant who was shot this week should be out of the hospital in a couple of days.
Sgt. Craig Bier was shot in both legs Wednesday night while working with an anti-gang unit in the Jamaica section of Queens.
The 15-year veteran is in stable condition at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.
Bloomberg spoke on his weekly WOR Radio show.
He said one bullet went in and out of Bier's leg. A bullet was lodged in his other leg.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly identified the suspected assailant Thursday as 24-year-old John Thomas of Queens. He remains at large.
Kelly said a Ruger 9 mm pistol was recovered behind a building on 107th Avenue, not far from where Bier was shot.
