Carl Lewis Quits NJ State Senate Race

Former Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis is giving up his legal fight to run for a seat in the New Jersey State Senate.
The announcement comes a day after a federal appeals panel ruled Lewis was not eligible to run because he did not meet the state's four-year residency requirement for office.
Lewis, a Democrat, had never held office before seeking to challenge Republican incumbent Dawn Addiego in the 8th Legislative District.
The ruling from judges on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals came seven weeks before the election and just before ballots were to be printed.
The track legend grew up in southern New Jersey, but spent most of his adult life in Texas and California.
