New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said the city will deploy thousands of additional police officers in the city for the 10th anniversary of September 11, even though there has been no specific terrorism threat to New York.
Kelly detailed a list of specialized units that will be dispersed throughout Lower Manhattan.
"Pilots will be in the air, hostage negotiators, officers with radiation detection equipment," Kelly said.
Police will also position snipers, bomb technicians and plainclothes officers to conduct surveillance.
The city will also assign police divers to inspect the piers and sky watch towers will be manned. Visitors to the World Trade Center should expect their bags to be checked.
