In NJ, Voter Registration Deadline Approaches

Monday, October 17, 2011 - 01:46 PM

New Jersey residents who want to vote in the November 8 general election have until Tuesday to register — either in person or by mailing in an application.

In November, New Jersey voters will get to cast ballots for state senators and assembly members, as well as county and local positions.

Robert Giles, director of the state Division of Elections, said applications are available online, in country election offices and in many state offices like the DMV. He added residents applying in person have until close of business Tuesday, but you can also mail in the application, so long as it is postmarked October 18.

The registration deadline for New York’s general election has passed, but any forms postmarked by October 14 and received by Wednesday will be accepted. New York does have one exception: people who were honorably discharged from the military or who have become naturalized citizens since October 14 have until October 28 to fill out a registration form.

If you're going to publish a story Monday about a deadline on Tuesday, say "tomorrow" not "Tuesday"
