Bloomberg Lobbies For Gun Control Bill
Wednesday, March 16, 2011 - 07:00 AM
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is urging Congress to pass a bill strengthening background checks for gun purchases. He was in Washington DC on Tuesday lobbying for the measure.
The bill is based on a proposal by a coalition of more than 550 mayors. It would require states to improve their reporting of records on criminals, drug abusers and the seriously mentally ill to a national database. Senator Chuck Schumer introduced a similar bill in the Senate.
The mayor's group has stepped up pressure on the federal government to tighten gun control legislation in the weeks after the deadly shooting rampage in Tucson when six people were killed and Rep.Gabrielle Giffords was seriously injured.

"Mayors Against Illegal Guns" -
Gun rights advocates have no problem with the control of illegal weapons...the problem we have is when you try to make ALL weapons illegal.
If the Mayors are against illegal weapons, why are they complaining about legal private ownership of legal weapons? It really should be Mayors Against Legal Guns.
