Teachers Union Launches Ad Attacking Bloomberg's Layoff Plan

The city's teacher's union went on the offensive against the Bloomberg administration's plan to lay off teachers by releasing a new television ad today that rips into the mayor's proposal to lay off teachers.
The 30-second ad, paid for the United Federation of Teachers, features a Harlem mother who looks directly into the camera and says the mayor doesn't listen to parents like her. She says the plan to downsize teachers will lead to more crowded classrooms and that the city doesn't need to lay off teachers because of a $3 billion surplus.
City hall spokesman Marc La Vorgna calls the surplus a "myth" and said it's already being used to close a budget gap and avoid deeper cuts to the education system.
