Ahead of Controversial Hearing, NY Rep. Defends Support of IRA
Tuesday, March 08, 2011 - 01:53 PM
New York Congressman Peter King, who will hold hearings this week on Islamic radicalism, is defending his support in the '80s and '90s of the Irish Republican Army.
The Long Island Republican said the IRA and al-Qaida are very different because the IRA was a narrowly focused homegrown movement while al-Qaida has attacked the U.S. and other countries. King said in an interview Tuesday that he supported only the group's political wing, and was right to advocate that the IRA be brought into peace negotiations to stop the violence.
King will preside over a congressional hearing on Thursday that has sparked protests - including a rally in New York this past Sunday - on the grounds that it unfairly targets Muslims. King said he believes the Muslim community isn't doing enough to renounce al-Qaida and work with law enforcement.

Did anyone read beyond the inflammatory headline? Mr. King, along with President Clinton, spearheaded the peace process in the six northern counties of Ireland. They dealt with Sinn Fein, the political wing of the IRA. And it worked.
Muslims live solely by the word of the Quran. It is immutable and, in the words of Mohammed, "perfect." In it, Jews and Christians, specifically, are condemned repeatedly. In the Hadiths, Mohammed's own words, he says they should be "smited at the neck and fingertips." (Daniel Pearl?) There is never forgiveness, and if they are thirsty, they should be given the
"filthy discharge of a wound" to drink. If that's not on the menu, there is always molten copper. We have to remember this. We, Jews, Christians, djinns, and "uncovered," educated women, will always be the enemy. If we had acted with this realization after the first attack in 1993, perhaps we could have prevented what followed.
Killing of inocent people in any way shape or form is terrorisim and any one like this guy is equaly guilty for the suport of IRA.
Don't have personal em address only office secretary one. Am 78, here 45 years-'member many things justify the phrase, plus a change, plus c'est la meme chose (sorry don't know where find accents on this website). So the Troubles in Ireland did NOT start in 70's, but in the 1920's; long before present SA town of unrest was Sharpeville; long before mayor MB attempts destroy pub edcn was efforts to keep parents out of schools/PTA, many over years tried foment unrest/ anxiety. KING OBVIOUSLY THEIR LEADER; RECALL HIM. DISELECT HIM ASAP.
Another right-wing hypocrite. So what else is new?
Terrorism is terrorism in my book. If you supported the IRA, you are just as guilty as an al-Qaida operative. It is clear what Rep. Peter King is up to. More fear==more $ for the military and the police and less for education and social services. Give this guy the boot!
Congressman King is pathetic. Terrorism is terrorism no matter the origin or motive. King is an opportunistic lout who wishes to breathe new life into the paranoid '50s, targeting American citizens. That he supported the IRA speaks volumes.
REPULICAN = RACIST
