Turn Food Scraps Into Soil at More Locations Starting Saturday

Friday, March 04, 2011 - 06:34 PM

Organic spoils can be turned into soil at more green markets beginning Saturday.

The  initiative builds on existing compost collection sites in Queens and Union Square. The city is expecting to collect between 600,000 and 1 million pounds of compost per year.

GrowNYC, which is behind the city's green markets, received $45,000 from the City Council to run the pilot program through June 25. For locations and drop-off times, visit http://www.grownyc.org/compost
