Tuesday, June 14, 2011 - 06:57 PM

Thousands of city workers rallied outside City Hall on Tuesday, following a march across the Brooklyn Bridge to protest Mayor Michael Bloomberg's proposed budget cuts to teachers, childcare, parks and library workers.

Jane Jacobs, who works in the catalog division of the Queens library, in Jamaica, held a yellow sign to protest cuts that would eliminate some of her co-workers.

A total of 5,600 layoffs are included in the mayor's budget. Most would be teachers but various other agencies are also affected. Another 2,000 teachers and 2,500 other positions would be eliminated through attrition.
