Tornado Warning in New York Counties

Friday, July 29, 2011 - 05:28 PM

A tornado warning has been issued for Westchester and Rockland counties in New York until 7:00 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The Doppler Radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near Hawthorne or Tarrytown is moving southeast at 30 mph. The storm warning is extended to reach Southern Fairfield, Connecticut.

The storm is also capable of producing 2-inch in diameter size hail and straight-line winds.

A tornado watch is in effect until 11 p.m. for northeast New Jersey and the metro area.

A tornado warning means that strong rotation has been detected in the storm and a tornado may be expected to develop shortly.
