Thursday, February 24, 2011 - 11:12 AM
A rush hour collision involving a motorcycle and three buses in the Lincoln Tunnel injured dozens of commuters and left a motorcycle rider clinging to life on Thursday.
The motorcyclist was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition. There were 52 others who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Most were treated on the scene. A spokeswoman for Roosevelt Hospital in Midtown said 18 were taken there with minor injuries and were expected to be released later today.
The center tube of the Lincoln Tunnel was reopened just before 1:25 p.m., according to Port Authority spokeswoman Jennifer Friedberg. The accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. Thursday in the Manhattan-bound lanes of the tunnel connecting New Jersey and New York City and remains under investigation.
Two of the buses were operated by NJ Transit and one was operated by Monsey Tours.
