The owner of famed Upper West Side bagel shop H&H has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, citing expensive litigation and the poor economy.
The operator of H&H bagels is asking for more time to repay creditors.
The bagel haven's largest creditor is UPS, which is owed $65,000, according to papers filed Thursday. The bagelmaker also owes $3.4 million to the IRS in back taxes.
Last year, owner Helmer Toro was ordered to do jail time for failure to pay taxes.
The filing suggests H&H could still be a viable business, noting that "the debtor still enjoys excellent relations with its customers and vendors." The business was founded in 1972.

I lived around the corner from the store for over 20 years. I think I went in only once or twice. Highly over-rated and not worth the over-inflated price or the wait on a long line.
H&H makes the best bagels! Mmmm the smell of the store on Broadway & 80th...
H&H filing for bankrupcy? I may plotz! (and I'm Irish!) Where will I get my nosh?
