Congressman Charles Rangel plans to run for re-election in 2012 despite his conviction on House ethics charges.
The Democrat, who was convicted of 11 ethics violations, filed a statement of candidacy this week with the Federal Election Commission to begin fundraising, spokesman Bob Liff said.
Rangel, 80, was censured by the House last year.
Many believed Rangel, who spoke of his advanced age, would not be seeking another term.
