Officials Cleaning Upstate NY Oil Spill After Storm

Oil and water don't mix — but the two are jointly causing problems in Schoharie County in upstate New York where flood waters caused by Tropical Storm Irene damaged tanks at an oil distribution center and caused a spill.
It is unclear how much oil spilled and successful the cleanup has been, according to Joe Martens, commissioner of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
Officials do not know how much oil was in the tanks or how much oil has been sucked up with a vacuum tank. The tank farm had a 120,000 gallon capacity when full.
Martens said the state typically gets 30 requests a day for oil spill cleanup help. Since Irene struck on Sunday, it has received 435 calls for help.
