Columbia College Dean Abruptly Resigns

The dean of Columbia College abruptly resigned — two weeks before classes start at the undergraduate division of the university.
Michele Moody-Adams, who was recruited from Cornell University in 2009, was the first female and first black dean of the college.
The New York Times reported that Moody-Adams cited administrative changes that would diminish or eliminate her authority as a possible reason for her departure.
In an email to Columbia Alumni and donors over the weekend, Moody-Adams said she planned to stay through the academic year.
But on Monday, Columbia president Lee Bollinger called for her to step down immediately so he can appoint an interim dean before the new academic year starts in two weeks.
