Espada's Clinic Cut From Medicaid Reimbursement

The New York State Department of Health has ended Medicaid participation for the Bronx clinic founded and run by former state Senator Pedro Espada, Jr.
Comprehensive Community Development Corporation, also known as Soundview, will be terminated from the Medicaid program effective September 12.
In a letter sent Wednesday to Soundview's chairwoman, health officials said the clinic did not have a compliance program that met statutory and regulatory requirements.
They also wrote that Soundview's Medicaid service delivery was managed by two individuals who are excluded from participation in the New York State Medicaid Program: Espada and his son, Pedro G. Espada.
Espada and his son are awaiting trail on federal charges that they funneled more than $500,000 from the Bronx health clinic to support a lavish lifestyle.
