Census Data Shows Large Population Swing in New York

The Empire Center for New York State Policy has reported that 1.6 million New Yorkers moved to other states last decade. That's more than the populations of Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, White Plains and West Babylon combined.
The think tank's findings are based on 2010 census data. The Empire Center also reported that New York had the greatest loss of residents to other states as a percentage of population.
This is the second decade in a row that New York has lost the greatest number of residents to other states nationwide as a percentage of population.
But the census data also showed that the out-migration was more than offset by immigrants moving into New York City. In the end, the state's population grew by 2 percent over the decade to 19.4 million.
