Escaped Peacock Returns to Zoo
Wednesday, August 03, 2011 - 11:37 AM
The peacock who wandered away from the Central Park Zoo and perched on the ledge of a tony Fifth Avenue apartment building Tuesday is safely back home.
Zoo Director Jeff Sailer said the peacock flew home on his own at 6:45 Wednesday morning. Sailer said zoo staff anticipated the bird would return on his own.
"A thorough understanding of the peacock's natural behavior allowed for the successful planning of its recovery," Sailer said.
In March, a cobra escaped from its cage in the Bronx Zoo but was found later in a non-public area of the zoo's Reptile House.
A peahen also escaped the Bronx Zoo this past spring. It was found near a repair shop in the West Farms neighborhood.

Disappointing. A sad day for freedom fighters everywhere.
