CUNY Trustees Set to Vote on Tuition Hike

The City University of New York's board of trustees will hold a special meeting Wednesday to approve a $300-a-year tuition hike for students at senior and community colleges.
The vote follows one taken last month on the same hikes, which a judge temporarily blocked after three students filed suit. The students said the vote wasn't valid because it was taken by a seven-member executive committee and not the full board of trustees.
The cost increase will bring the price for state residents to $2,565 a semester at senior colleges starting this fall. The State Legislature approved the increase to help offset cuts in state aid.
A university spokesman says needy students will continue to pay no tuition because of federal and state grants.
