Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott Weighs in on Charter Schools

The newly appointed New York City Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott said he believes school options should include charter schools. He called for a tapering of the rhetoric around whether charter schools or regular public schools need to be expanded.
Walcott spoke on WOR on what is his first school day as chancellor.
The chancellor said parents should have several competitive options which include public, charter and theme schools.
He also noted that class size will slightly increase with the mayor's new budget.
Following his radio show, Walcott visited Paul Robeson High School in Brooklyn, one of several public schools slated for closure due to low performance. The chancellor promised support for the transition.

Slightly increase! I have 27 4th graders with no additional assistance now. How fair is that to students?
