Museum Closes for Obama Visit
Thursday, September 23, 2010 - 04:15 PM
As part of the U.N. General Assembly events, President Barack Obama is hosting a reception for visiting heads of state at the American Museum of Natural History Thursday night. The museum has been closed to the public all day in preparation.
The Upper West Side is in full security mode: on-street parking in the neighborhood has been curtailed, concrete NYPD barricades were up in front of the museum as of Thursday morning and Theodore Roosevelt Park -- the park which surrounds the museum -- will be closing today at 4 p.m.
The NYPD officers lingering in front of the 81st Street subway stop this morning say there were no plans to change subway service, but commuters should expect bus delays.
Gridlock Sam tweets: “As Pres Obama heads to Museum of Nat Hist 7pm 2nite, M10 on CPW and M7+M11 on Columbus Ave. likely rerouted. Better off on B, C, 1 trains.”
