City Tourism on Track to Break Record

Recession be damned. That seems to the sentiment of tourists heading to New York. The city is on track to surpass the record of 47 million visitors in 2008.
Tourism is up four percentage points over last year, when cost-conscious travelers cut back on spending and the number of visitors fell below 2001 numbers. City officials report the number of tourists in on track to surpass 47.5 million.
Tourism accounts for $30 billion a year in direct spending and is New York's fifth largest industry.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg's goal is to reach 50 million visitors by 2012.
