The artists featured in Haunch of Venison's exhibit -- such as Afro Basaldella, above -- all pushed the limits of abstractions in terms of technique and material.

Also part of the exhibit will be early works by Lucio Fontana, a painter who frequently punctured his canvases, turning them into works of scupture. A painting from 1956 is seen here.

Rammellzee was an artist who was obsessed with the power of letters. In the 2008 work 'Wild Style Letter R,' he explores the physical shape of our language.

The artist frequently donned unusual costumes and created wearable sculpture -- as seen in this photograph that was taken sometime in the 1980s.
