New Charge Brought Against Former John Liu Aide

Federal prosecutors have brought a new criminal charge against the former campaign treasurer for New York City Comptroller John Liu.
The government charged Jia Hou with making false statements to the FBI. An indictment was rewritten Thursday to add her name and the charge.
She already faced conspiracy, wire fraud and obstruction of justice charges brought when she was arrested in February. The new charge adds another five years to the 60-year potential prison term she could face if she is convicted.
Her lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The campaign says Liu believes in her. It says the indictment seems to rehash everything from months ago.
The government says straw donors were used to funnel large, illegal contributions to Liu's campaign.
