Freshman City Councilman Eric Ulrich announced his bid for State Senate on Tuesday. Ulrich will run in the new 15th Senate District, which extends from the western most tip of the Rockaway peninsula up through the Woodhaven neighborhood.
His presumed Democratic opponent will be State Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr., who beat Republican State Senator Serphin Maltese in 2008 for the seat he currently holds. This year's redistricting process significantly changed Addabbo's district, removing the Middle Village-based section of the district in the north and adding tacking on the Rockaway area to the south.
"I will bring the same fresh approach and new ideas to the State Senate that I've brought to the City Council," Ulrich said in a statement. "I love my job on the City Council, but the stakes are simply too high. Too many of my friends and relatives have left New York because they simply can't afford to live here any longer. We need to change that. I'm running because I believe I can make a difference."
Ulrich released a video announcing his campaign, below:

I love that this video is taken in middle village which is not even part of the district that he is running for office
