WNYC’s MP3 Streams
Now, more ways to enjoy WNYC live online!
WNYC now offers our live AM & FM internet streams in MP3 format!
What's MP3? We're glad you asked. MP3 (pronounced Em-pee three) is a popular digital audio format, developed by the Moving Picture Experts Group, an ISO committee that generates standards for digital video and audio compression.
One of the best things about MP3 streams is that they can be played in many free audio players, including WinAmp, RealOne Player and iTunes.
Our AM MP3 stream is encoded at 24kbps, fine for users on dial-up internet connections. Our FM MP3 stream is encoded at 64kbps and requires a broadband internet connection. Both streams are mono-phonic.
If you are a fan of our existing Windows Media streams, fear not! We will continue to offer WMP streams, both at 20kbps.
