In late October, 2012, a storm barreled toward the East Coast. Superstorm Sandy caused unprecedented destruction in New York and New Jersey, flooding the subways, closing the bridges, decimating areas of Staten Island, the Rockaways and the Jersey Shore and causing an estimated $50 billion of damage.
