It was a good night for Ben Affleck, but Jodie Foster may have stolen the show.
Affleck won awards for Best Director and Best Movie for Argo after being passed over for an Oscar nomination, but Jodie Foster’s acceptance speech for her lifetime achievement award is dominating the headlines.
In the sometimes confusing seven-minute speech, Foster made an appeal to privacy and seemed to re-affirm that she is indeed gay.
Rafer Guzman, film critic for Newsday and co-host of the Movie Date podcast, said “everyone heard the speech how they wanted to hear it.”
“I think in the end, she kind of wanted to have it both ways and kind of wink at us all and say, you know the truth, but I don’t want to spell it out for you and I don’t feel the need,” Guzman said.
