LIPA Picks PSEG to Manage Grid

The Long Island Power Authority has selected PSEG to manage its electric transmission and distribution.
It’s a departure from its decade-long agreement with National Grid. The switch comes just a few months after National Grid's poor performance in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene, which knocked power out in some areas of Long Island for several days.
Governor Andrew Cuomo publicly complained about National Grid’s poor communication with thousands of Long Island customers left without power for days after the storm.
LIPA said one of the goals of the new selection will be to improve customer satisfaction.
In a statement on its website, National Grid said it was disappointed with the decision, but that it would not harm the firm's overall U.S. business profile.
LIPA’s contract with National Grid expires in about two years.
