The day after getting final approval from the state education commissioner, the city's next schools chancellor toured a school in the Bronx and read to a class of first graders. But publishing executive Cathie Black is still causing controversy.

A small group of opponents called the Deny Waiver Coalition protested on the steps of the Board of Education this evening. One member, Noah Gotbaum, says they're exploring legal ways to fight Mayor Bloomberg's choice to lead the schools.

"Part of it is a legal push, part of it is simply saying that enough is enough, that you cannot run our school system as a business where you are the only decision maker."

Gotbaum and his group are planning to keep the pressure on by asking all parent's, students and teachers who oppose Black's appointment to show it by wearing red on Thursday in protest.

City officials stand by the legality of the Mayor's appointment and the waiver from the state commissioner David Steiner that green lighted Black's appointment as chancellor.
