Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Role in Newark Schoolyard Shooting

Melvin Jovel will spend the rest of his life in prison, after pleading guilty to killing three people in a New Jersey schoolyard in 2007.
A judge sentenced Jovel to three consecutive life sentences, plus 20 years. Jovel, 21, pleaded guilty to murder, attempted murder and weapons charges days before his trial was to start in September.
Prosecutors said Jovel and five others lined up the victims against a wall in Newark and shot each in the back of the head.
A judge sentenced another man in the case to three consecutive life terms. Four others are awaiting trial.
