Governor Paterson presents his 2010-2011 budget in Albany this morning. WNYC's Ilya Marritz reports austerity remains the name of the game.
REPORTER: For the last three months of this fiscal year, the state faces a cash shortfall of $3 million.
And there's more agony in store for fiscal 2011, which begins April first. A deficit of more than $7 billion is projected; the total budget is about $120 billion. Governor Paterson says he will once again ask for "shared sacrifice."
Later today he'll detail exactly what sacrifices he's considering. Advocates will be listening closely for word on school aid, free student metro cards, and health spending.
